As most of you will know, I will move to Geneve soon to start my PhD at MIRALab. Of course that means that I’m looking for housing. All my applications at the various student residences have been declined. The only one left is the RUI. Apart from that I have been looking at rooms/studios/apartments that are available for rent. Again, no succes there. Well, not yet.
I’m sure it will be fine in the end, but it takes so much time. :s If anyone of you reading this know of an available and affordable (tough combination) place, please let me know. And I will keep you up to date about what happens over here.
Hi Bart,
I could just as well start in Dutch, but since you’re writing in English, I’ll do just the same.
Okay, quite a coincidence! I just posted a blog on the Hyves community site, saw it was placed on Technorati, checked what this was, looked for MIRALab and found another Bart, also from Holland, also going to Geneva this very year! The main difference is that I will go for my Master Thesis project, instead of a PhD.
For me it’s not clear when I will go exactly, as the project hasn’t completely been settled yet, but I’m assuming it will be about half November. Of course I’m looking for space to live as well, and I’ve heard from a Swiss student that this time of the year is (understandably) probably the worst time to find a room or an appartment, unless you’re blessed with lots of money of course. Therefore, I wish you lots of luck, and myself too!
See you around in Switzerland!
Cheers,
Bart
PS: A friend of mine is also trying to go to the MIRALab, it might get “gezellig” there
Hey Bart,
nice to hear from you. And good to hear that there will be some Dutchies again in the lab. It has been getting much too French over the last few months. So if I go back in October and you will be there in November, we can start to slowly work them out of MIRALab. (Starting with Pierre. :p )
But seriously, you’ve made a good choice for MIRALab. I’ve done my stage and graduation project there and both times were great for me. It’s kind of normal that you don’t exactly know what you will be doing. That’s something that develops as time goes along. Do you already know who your supervisor will be?
If you have any questions on MIRALab, living in GE, housing or whatever, feel free to mail me at my personal address, in Dutch.
See you soon in the tropical city of Geneva.
Bart.
