I am typing this post at Shoenefeld Airport in Berlin. I have just spent a couple of days in this great German city. The main purpose was to attend the EPOCH WP3 meeting that was organized at the CAA2007 conference. It was my first meeting of this kind, so it was somewhat interesting to follow how these meetings take place.
We mainly discussed the state of the project until now and what still needs to be done for the next review that will be in early July.
Apart from that I took one day to visit Berlin itself a bit. Tourist for a day. I have to say that Berlin is quite an amazing city. I liked it a lot and I will certainly go back again to see a bit more. It is so huge that one day is nowhere near enough to see everything that you might want to see. I will put some pictures on the Gallery page of this site (http://bart.kevelham.com/gallery) so if you’re interested you can take a look at it. One of the major advantages of this city is that they speak German there. Pretty obvious of course, but since I speak German I could get around there way more easily than I can in Geneva for example. I can speak to people, ask them things and have fun a bit without any problem.
I have been staying at Hotel-Pension Spree during my stay and it was a nice place to be. It really was this old very german hotel with furniture that even your grandmother might think of that it’s out of fashion. But I loved it way more than any new sterile hotel. For some reason the lady at the reception couldn’t understand the fact that I speak German, so she always spoke in English to me. Which is no problem either. It was kind of funny though. Me speaking in English to her while a minute later I asked for some coffee in German to her colleague.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to see Lisa in Berlin, since she went home for Easter. But if I have some time to take a couple of days off again, I will certainly think about going to Berlin. I won’t bother you by telling about all the places I’ve been (Siegessaeule, Brandenburger Tor, Reichstag, Fernseh Turm, Checkpoint Charlie, Zoologischer Garten, Kaiser Wilhelm Gedachtniskirche, etc.) you can see all of them in my pictures.
This concludes my little update. I have such a hard life…..sigh….
